The Immortal Chilli, a Warhammer 40,000 teams tournament took place in Hamilton last weekend, on the 2nd and 3rd of November, 2024, and I had the opportunity to check it out.
Hosted by Tactical Chilli Wargaming, in collaboration with the Hamilton Immortals Miniature Wargaming club, the event attracted 12 teams of 5 from around the North Island, that's a whopping 60 players, more than I have seen at a single game system wargaming event in my time in the hobby.
Chad Wright's Sisters of Battle army, all well detailed,
which won him the best painted award
While miniature painting isn’t typically the main focus of competitive 40k wargamers, with 60 players I thought there would be some spectacular armies, and I wasn’t disappointed! I took snaps of a few of the amazing armies on display, which you can see throughout this article.
Chris Bowles' Tau army, brimming with colour and creativity,
which won him the runner-up painting award
We at Parker Hobbies are just one of the sponsors supporting Tactical Chilli Wargaming, here is a list of award recipients, I was surprised to see how significant the value of some of the prizes were – certainly the largest I have seen in New Zealand.
This photo doesn't do justice to David March's amazing Aeldari army, what you can't see is the troop of harlequins, and a well painted Avatar of Khaine, which is just a blur in the background of this pic.

Tactical Chilli Wargaming have taken the competitive Warhammer 40k scene by storm this year, and I can see why, the energy at the event was humming and I came away from it looking to start on a new army – and that’s as a guy who had given up on the game some time ago. We are excited to see what is next from this team of enthusiastic organisers, check out the Tactical Chili Wargaming Facebook page and Youtube Channel at the links below:
